Poland has determined the origin of the missile that fell during the attack on Ukraine

This was reported on Friday, July 31, by Prosecutor Marcin Kozak, a spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, according to Polsat News.

According to him, during an initial examination of the missile debris, investigators were able to definitively identify the type of object. It is a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, manufactured in the second quarter of 2026 at one of the plants in the Moscow region.

Starting Friday morning, Polish investigators examined and cataloged the recovered debris. An expert from Ukraine also joined the effort to help identify the missile.

The day before, Polish military personnel surveyed an area of approximately 3 square kilometers. They discovered numerous pieces of the missile, including engine components.

A crater with a diameter of about 10 meters and a depth of up to 5 meters formed at the crash site. Law enforcement officers seized the missile debris and collected soil samples.

The investigation is currently determining the circumstances under which the missile entered Polish airspace. The next steps will include interviewing witnesses and collecting video footage that may help reconstruct the flight path.

The prosecutor’s office is also cooperating with other government agencies, border guards, and the Polish Air Force command. They have information about the direction from which the missile came and its flight path.

Polish law enforcement is investigating the unauthorized violation of the country’s airspace, as well as the creation of a threat of an aviation disaster that could have posed a danger to human life and health or caused extensive property damage.

Under Polish law, creating a threat of an aviation disaster is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

At the same time, the prosecutor’s office noted that holding specific individuals accountable may be difficult due to limited cooperation with Russian authorities.

As a reminder, following yet another massive Russian missile strike on Ukrainian territory, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces scrambled fighter jets and a long-range radar detection aircraft.

Later, in Poland’s Lublin Voivodeship, near the border with Ukraine, police and military personnel discovered a crater and debris from an unidentified flying object.

After visiting the site of the incident in Tarnów-Kolonia, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that most of the debris found points to a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga also stated that last night, during a massive Russian strike on Ukrainian territory, an enemy X-101 cruise missile violated Polish airspace.
