Consequences of the massive Russian attack on the Odessa region on the night of August 22, 2026 Odesa Regional Military Administration

On the night of August 22, Russian troops launched a massive combined strike on Ukrainian territory. In the Odesa region, transportation, industrial, and energy infrastructure facilities, as well as residential areas, came under fire.

This was reported by Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Air Force.

Consequences of the attacks in the Odesa region

According to the Odesa Regional State Administration and rescue workers, one person was injured as a result of the shelling.

The railway station building in Rozdilna sustained the most damage, and parked cars caught fire nearby. In addition, the roof of a five-story residential building, an industrial facility, and a sports complex were damaged in the region.

Due to strikes on energy and civilian infrastructure, some settlements in the region experienced disruptions in electricity and water supply. Emergency services are on the ground. The State Emergency Service has deployed over 100 rescue workers and 23 pieces of specialized equipment to address the aftermath.

Air Defense Operations and the Scale of the Overall Attack

According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, the attack began on the evening of August 21. The enemy used ballistic missiles (Iskander-M/S-400), three guided air-to-ground missiles (Kh-31P/Kh-59), “Banderol” loitering munitions, and 217 attack UAVs of various types (including Shahed, “Gerbera,” and decoy drones). The weapons were launched from the territory of the Russian Federation, the occupied Donetsk region, and Crimea, as well as from the Black Sea.

As of 9:00 a.m., units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces had managed to shoot down and neutralize 191 enemy targets:

  • 3 Kh-31P/Kh-59 air-to-ground missiles;
  • 6 “Banderole” loitering munitions;
  • 182 drones of various types.

Across the country, airstrikes were recorded at 41 locations, and debris from downed targets was found at 12 additional locations.

As a reminder, on the night of August 22, Russian occupiers attacked Kyiv: a warehouse in the capital caught fire following the shelling, and one person was killed.

In addition, that same night, Russian troops struck railway infrastructure in Kyiv and the Odesa region. As a result of the shelling in the Kyiv region, a railway worker was killed, and damage to a train station was reported in the Odesa region.
