Yevhenii Khmara proved back when he was with "Alpha" that he doesn't make empty promises, – Zelenskyy
Volodymyr Zelenskyy The President's Office

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the key tasks for the new defense minister in the war against Russia.

He announced this in his evening address.

According to the president, the system must provide everything necessary to repel Russian attacks, hold positions on the front lines, and take active countermeasures against Russian terror.

The main task for Ukraine’s defense minister under these circumstances is to effectively reorganize our defense system, our production and procurement systems, and our military supply chain.

Zelenskyy noted that Yevhen Khmara had already proven during his service in “Alpha” that he does not make empty promises. The president expects the Ministry of Defense to expand the scope of precision strikes, work with Ukrainian weapons manufacturers to provide more capabilities for air defense, and collaborate with partners to enhance capabilities for defensive and offensive operations.

He also highlighted Khmara’s already strong working relationship with Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi. Before winter sets in, Ukraine must be as confident as possible in its defenses and positions.

Separately, Zelenskyy announced that he had awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Second Lieutenant Vladislav Polsky, who saved his comrades.

As a reminder, during his address to the Verkhovna Rada, newly appointed Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara outlined three key priorities for his work: strengthening the front lines, developing human capital, and scaling up the defense-industrial complex.
