On the morning of Sunday, August 23, in the Odesa region, a Russian “Shahed”-type jet-powered drone struck the locomotive of passenger train No. 147 traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa, which was carrying nearly 600 passengers.

This was reported by the press office of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” and the company’s chairman of the board, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi.

According to the company, an enemy UAV (which Pertsovskyi described as a “Shahed” jet-powered drone) struck the locomotive while people were being evacuated. The aerial threat was detected in advance by the Ukrzaliznytsia monitoring center.

The train was immediately stopped on the tracks, after which passengers and railway workers were quickly moved to a safe distance, thus preventing any casualties or injuries.

Transportation to the final station in Odesa has now been arranged for the passengers. The railway authority added that specialists are working on further measures to ensure the safety of passenger transportation.

As a reminder, on August 13, in the Odesa region, an enemy “Shahed” drone struck a passenger train directly. Two railway workers—the engineer and his assistant—were killed in the Russian attack.

On the night of August 22, Russian troops launched strikes against railway infrastructure in Kyiv and the Odesa region. As a result of the shelling, a company employee was killed, and damage to the train station was reported.
